Trust Our Dallas, Texas Surgeons for Secondary Rhinoplasty

The surgeons at our Dallas, Texas practice are experts in secondary rhinoplasty. Frequently called revision rhinoplasty, this type of nasal surgery is performed when problems either persist or develop after previous rhinoplasty surgery. Occasionally, the problems are slight and can be corrected easily. Usually, however, deformities are significant, making secondary rhinoplasty more difficult than primary rhinoplasty and requiring more expertise. It is therefore important to select a highly qualified surgeon who is experienced in secondary rhinoplasty when the revision of a previous nose job is required.

Exceptional Qualifications

Secondary rhinoplasty requires exceptional analytical and surgical skill. Only surgeons with extensive training and significant rhinoplasty experience can restore breathing function and improve less-than-desirable results from previous nose surgery. Dr. Jack P. Gunter and Dr. C. Spencer Cochran are two of only a handful of surgeons worldwide that focus exclusively on rhinoplasty.

Jack P. Gunter, MD, founder of our Dallas, Texas practice, is among the world’s top specialists in secondary/revision rhinoplasty. He has pioneered many new techniques, and his contributions have significantly enhanced secondary rhinoplasty practices throughout the cosmetic surgery field. Patients from around the world seek his expertise for improving the structure and appearance of their noses, and he has helped to correct the effects of previous surgery for many patients.

C. Spencer Cochran, MD is a highly respected rhinoplasty surgeon and was hand-selected by Dr. Gunter for his knowledge and skill in all aspects of nasal surgery. His understanding of both the aesthetic and the functional aspects of primary and secondary rhinoplasty gives him rare insight into the procedure.

Our Goals for Secondary Rhinoplasty

Most patients at our Dallas, Texas office who are seeking secondary/revision rhinoplasty have a nose that looks operated and unnatural or does not function as it should. Dr. Gunter and Dr. Cochran's surgical goal is always to produce a nose that looks natural, functions properly, and harmonizes with the patient's other facial features. To accomplish this, it is usually necessary to reconstruct and reshape the underlying framework of cartilage and bone using cartilage grafts obtained from either the ear or the rib.

In the skilled hands of Dr. Gunter and Dr. Cochran, significant improvement can be achieved with secondary rhinoplasty. However, it is important to note that, due to the complexity of the procedure, a nose surgery revision can take two to three times as long as primary rhinoplasty. The extra time, combined with any grafting or other special techniques used during treatment, also make it significantly more expensive.

When assessing a patient’s candidacy for secondary rhinoplasty, Dr. Gunter or Dr. Cochran will always listen to and consider the patient’s desires. However, as with any surgery, there are certain limits to what can be accomplished. If the surgeon feels that the patient’s goals are not achievable, he will address this during the consultation. Also, patients cannot be assessed for secondary rhinoplasty until at least one full year has passed since their last nasal surgery, as subtle changes may still be taking place up until this time.
